Why would anyone drive in white socks, no shoes ?
Well, this is what you would do if your shoes were *very* muddy.
You just take them off and place them in a plastic bag on the passenger's side.
If you've done it more than once, possibly many times, I'd bet you run
muddy trails in the rain! That's crazy !!! But you're a very dedicated runner !!!!

a 22 miles of mud slides
Yesterday Dayle and I ran agian the 22 miles from LGHS to McAbee. It was exactly the same course we did three weeks ago. The weather was good, no showers, not too cold. However the trail condition was very different from two and three weeks ago. There were many mud slides and fallen rocks along the way, and quite many puddles and muddy sections to cross. This large one in the pictures bellow blocked the way completely and had us walk on the edge around, through the mud and above the edge.
This is the same mud slide from the other side. It will take a lot of work to clear it and restore the trail. The mud is between 2-4 feet high.
These pictures do not do justice to reality - they were suppose to convince you that we got a fair share of mud, however it looks pretty clean in these pictures.
At Hicks point I sat down on the road to take some stones out form my shoe. This was a short break, 3:20 hours into the run. Why would you care about it ? well, after I stood up I just could not run anymore ! It was a pain between my legs that hit me pretty badly. No, it's not what you're thinking about, so wipe this smile off your face. It took me maybe 15 minutes of walk and some electrolytes to recover. After another 40 minutes it was completely gone. That was an interesting lesson to remember.
Overall it was easier than last time. We made it in 4:55 hours, despite of all the mud and obstacles, and were much more alive at the end than before. And it was suppose to be better - afterall, this was my birthday !!
