Pain Free Running

It seems a little like tempting fate to expound on the exhiliration of running without an injury, especially when we all suffer ups and downs in that department, and yet with the endorphins running rampant after a really awesome track workout it seems I can't help myself.

It was just Dayle and myself this morning and coming in the middle of a pretty strenuous week (for me) I was mentally fatigued. While I had trouble summoning the energy to break into our warm-up trot, Dayle seemed raring to go. Mentally grumbling to myself I decided to "choose my attitude" and suck it up. Still it wasn't until my first set of strides that I felt like I had something in me today, so it was pretty surprising, shocking really, when I completed my 1x1600m at a 7:00 pace, a full 20sec/mile faster than my target. Hoookay. Did I miss a lap?

10x400m was what was left on the schedule for today. First lap 1:45! My mental target was 1:55. Alright, I could slow it down a little. Next was 1:47, 1:50, 1:48, 1:47, 1:48, now I was really feeling it, committ to 2 more, 1:53, 1:52. Its not until I get home that I look up 1:45 in lane 7 - 6:19 pace!! And all my intervals are sub-7 pace. Where did it come from? I still don't know.

I don't know if I can put in words the feeling of having "conquered" my knee injury. Having lived with nagging pain for so long and now to be able to run pain-free is just amazing.
